Sudoku FAQ

Is this Sudoku free?

Yes. Play as many puzzles as you like at every level, with hints, the solver and printing, with no account.

How are the difficulty levels decided?

Each puzzle is rated by the hardest technique you need to solve it without guessing. Beginner needs only the simplest box scanning; Easy adds singles in rows, columns and cells; Medium adds pointing, claiming, pairs and triples; Hard adds X-Wings, Swordfish, XY-Wings and quads; Expert needs chains; Evil needs forcing chains.

Does every puzzle have one solution?

Yes. Every puzzle is checked by a solver to have exactly one solution, and every level can be solved by logic alone.

How do hints work?

A hint finds the easiest next step. It highlights the cells involved, names the technique and explains why it works. Show the move to see what changes, then apply it or do it yourself. If a digit you placed is wrong, the hint tells you that first.

Can I solve my own puzzle?

Yes. Open the Solver, type the givens or paste the 81 digits (dots or zeros for empty cells). It checks that the puzzle has exactly one solution, rates it, and solves it at once or step by step with explanations.

What is the daily puzzle?

One puzzle a day, the same for everyone, changing at midnight UTC. It starts easy on Monday and gets harder through the week. Solve it on consecutive days to build a streak.

Can I print Sudoku puzzles?

Yes. In Print, choose the level, how many puzzles and 1, 2, 4 or 6 per page on A4 or Letter, with optional solution pages. Download a PDF or print straight from your browser.

Are my games saved?

Your current game, settings and statistics are saved in this browser, so you can close the page and carry on later. Export progress to keep a copy or move it to another browser.

Which keyboard shortcuts are there?

Arrow keys move, 1–9 fill a cell, Shift with a number or N for notes, Backspace or Delete erases, Z undoes, Y redoes, H gives a hint and P pauses.
