How to generate a hash

Enter text or add files

Type text, paste hex bytes, or drop one or more files of any size.

Pick the algorithms

Choose as many as you need. Turn on HMAC to use a secret key.

Copy or verify

Copy a hash, save a checksum list, or paste the expected checksum to see if it matches.

Hash Generator FAQ

Is this hash generator free?

Yes, with no account and no limits.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Files are read and hashed in your browser tab, so they never leave your device.

How large can a file be?

Any size your browser can open. Files are read in 8 MB pieces and every chosen algorithm is updated from the same piece, so even multi-gigabyte files aren’t held in memory. Speed depends on your device and the algorithms chosen.

How do I verify a download?

Add the file and paste the checksum from the download page into the compare box. It is matched against every chosen algorithm, in hex or Base64. You can also paste a whole SHA256SUMS or .md5 file to check several files by name.

What is HMAC?

A hash that also depends on a secret key, used to sign API requests and webhooks. Choose the algorithm (usually SHA-256), turn on HMAC and enter the key as text or hex. BLAKE2 and BLAKE3 use their own keyed mode.

Which algorithm should I use?

SHA-256 for checksums and signatures. MD5 and SHA-1 are broken for security and only suit matching older checksums. CRC and xxHash are fast checks for accidental changes, not for security.

Is text hashed as UTF-8?

Yes, exactly as typed, including spaces and line breaks. Choose “Hex bytes” to hash raw bytes instead.
