How to play the block puzzle

Move and rotate

Slide the falling piece left or right and rotate it so it fits the gaps in the stack. The outline at the bottom shows where it will land.

Fill whole rows

A row with no gaps disappears and the rows above fall down. Clearing two, three or four rows at once scores far more than one at a time.

Keep the stack low

Pieces fall faster as you level up. The game ends when a new piece has no room at the top, so keep the middle of the well clear.

Tips for higher scores

Leave one column open

Stack flat on nine columns and keep the tenth empty. A long straight piece then clears four rows at once, the biggest single clear.

Use hold as a spare

Put an awkward piece on hold and swap it back when it fits. Keep a straight piece there when your well is ready for four rows.

Watch the next queue

Plan two or three pieces ahead. Knowing what comes next lets you leave the right gap now.

Keep it flat

Bumpy stacks leave holes. Avoid towers and deep single-wide pits other than your open column.

Chain your clears

Clearing rows with consecutive pieces builds a combo, and back-to-back four-row clears or spins earn half as much again.

Learn the spin

Turning the T piece into a covered slot as the last move counts as a spin, worth far more than a normal clear of the same rows.

Block puzzle FAQ

Is this block puzzle free?

Yes. Play as much as you like with no account, no ads and no limits.

How do the controls work?

On a keyboard, the arrow keys move, ↑ or X rotates clockwise, Z rotates the other way, A turns the piece 180°, ↓ drops it faster, Space drops it at once, C puts it on hold and Esc pauses. You can change every key in the Keys panel.

Can I play on my phone?

Yes. Drag on the well to move the piece, tap to rotate, flick down to drop and flick up to hold. Buttons under the well do the same if you prefer them.

How is the score counted?

One row scores 100 points, two 300, three 500 and four 800, times your level. Clearing rows with consecutive pieces adds a combo bonus, back-to-back four-row clears or spins earn 50% more, and emptying the whole well adds a big bonus. Dropping a piece earns a point or two per row.

What are the game modes?

Marathon: clear 150 lines while the speed rises every 10 lines; you can start at a higher level. 40 lines: clear 40 lines as fast as you can. 2 minutes: score as much as you can before the time runs out.

What is the daily challenge?

Each day (UTC) everyone gets the same order of pieces in the 2-minute mode, so scores compare fairly. Share your result with one tap.

Which pieces come next?

Pieces are dealt from a shuffled set of all seven, so you never wait long for a piece: each one appears once in every seven.

What happens when a piece hits the wall as I rotate it?

The game tries a few nearby positions and uses the first that fits, so pieces can turn next to walls and slip into tight slots.

Does the game pause when I switch tabs?

Yes. It pauses as soon as the page is hidden or loses focus, and the game in progress is kept in this browser so you can resume it later.

Are my scores saved?

Your best scores, recent games, settings and keys are saved in this browser. Clearing your browser data removes them.
